Transactional Finance Manager

Type: Permanent

Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 per Annum

Location: Leeds, West Yorkshire

Have you stopped putting on your best suit for work?

Are you an experienced Transactional Supervisor or Ledgers Manager who is ready for their next challenge?

You’ve had great success improving your current company’s processes and… now what?

Well, you’ll find what you’re looking for as Transactional Finance Manager for Baird Group.

You’ll really make an impact; you’ll solve problems and have the freedom to implement changes that will help the business continue to grow.

About the Company

Baird Group have been ‘dressing men well’ since 1894 as a manufacturer, wholesaler and retailer of men’s clothing and suits.

The business has evolved to focus on wholesale, concessions, and now standalone retail and e-commerce. The group remains one of the largest formalwear companies in the UK, encompassing brands such as Racing Green, Ben Sherman and Ted Baker.

Having overcome the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Group now has a multi-faceted five-year plan, poised for significant growth across wholesale, retail and e-commerce channels. Since the height of the pandemic, their revenue has trebled across the group.

The company has really bounced back, so it’s no wonder that its Chief Operating Finance Officer, Nick Scott, was shortlisted in the Resilience category at the 2021 Yorkshire Finance Leaders Awards.

The judges acknowledged Nick’s resilience but felt it more fitting to honour him with the prestigious Outstanding Finance Leader award. So you’ll be well suited here if you can inspire a team.

What You’ll Do

The first challenge for you is to overcome the impact of the business restructure and the pandemic.

You’ll go back to basics and help the team to reconcile supplier statements for their 800 live supplier accounts, ranging from an invoice as small as £10 up to creditors of £3m.

Once this backlog is dealt with, you’ll put new processes in place to ensure that the accounts payable function is efficient and maintains good relationships with suppliers.

This is key, as suppliers have continued to support the company due to their well-defined business plan, and your effective management of these processes will help to instil further confidence in the relationship.

On the other side of the ledger, in addition to overseeing accounts receivable activity, you will be responsible for managing working capital and asset-backed finance facilities.

You will carry out daily uploads and drawdowns and manage the facilities to provide the working capital needed to continue the group’s expansion.

You’ll have two direct reports, the Credit Manager and the Accounts Payable Supervisor, and you’ll mentor them to develop their leadership skills; overall, you’ll manage a team of seven.

About You

You may be a qualified accountant, but you’ll most likely be qualified by experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable skills.

You’re someone who enjoys fixing problems, with experience of putting better systems in place to maintain and manage effective processes in your current role.

And you’ll be looking to do this again, as you’re someone who always wants to be making an impact.
